About Me
Eilish O’Connor
Counsellor and Psychotherapist
MIACP, BBS (Hons), Professional Dip in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am a Humanistic and Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist working in private practice in Galway. I obtained my professional Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from The Tivoli Institute, Dublin, Ireland. I am a Fully Accredited Member of the IACP – Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am committed to its professional and ethical code of conduct. Other qualifications include: Bachelor of Business Degree BBS (Hons), NLP – Neuro Linguistic Programming for Self Esteem and Performance Certificate. I also have considerable experience working in the caring profession. I have worked as a mentor and spokesperson for young students coming to stay in Ireland, looking after their well being as well as emotional needs throughout the school year. I also have considerable experience working in the caring profession including working with children from ages 3-10.
The Theoretical Approaches I use are Humanistic and Integrative while also embracing Person-Centred, Gestalt and Psychodynamic styles. Other techniques I use in my work are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness.
Depending on what issues or challenges a client presents with, I will adopt an approach which will suit that individual’s needs. For example a person may struggle in current relationships due to past relationships. In this case I would work with the inner child, exploring one’s past, including childhood relationships in order to gain insight into current relationship behaviours. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of a therapeutic relationship.
